Writing Skills
I got creative and technical writing experience from several classes, the most notable are from my environmental writing class and my environmental sociology class. I included my PRT Management class because I conducted an interview with a manger at a governmental agency, and I followed up with a self-critique of my interview.
Environmental Writing - WRTG 3420
These were accomplished in my WRTG 3420 class. This course was writing about contemporary environmental issues across a variety of 3 interrelated genres of nonfiction environmental writing: creative environmental nonfiction, natural history/science writing, public policy/advocacy writing. Along with these 3, I also accomplished 3 shorter, sensory impressions essays and my final essay. Each link opens up into a new window to view the PDF.
Creative Envir. Nonfiction
Goal: to place yourself in a prominent role of the narrative, preferably in a wild space, providing insights into places and events to engage questions of relation and meaning. |
Natural Science Writing
Goal: to convey complex and often technical information in terms accessible to a general audience. In some cases, writers use scientific facts or principles as a basis for social commentary." |
Public Policy Writing
Goal: to write and submit a persuasive commentary on a specific environmental issue to a government agency, newspaper, or other public forum. |
Final Essay
Goal: A 2500 word essay suitable for publication as a feature piece in one of the many publications focused on nature and the environment. |
My sensory impressions essays were strongly rooted in the senses. These were good practice to get myself firmly in touch with my senses to produce better imagery and experiences through my writing. My neglected author was a fun and short reflection I did on a story that wasn't originally assigned in class.

Computer Skills
I learned various electronic marketing skills as well as Adobe Suite like Photoshop and Flash. I've had a much longer experience with Microsoft Office of 7+ years including Excel formulas, budgets, and brochures.
Management Philosophy
This is the final video of my Management Philosophy. I made this with Prezi and turned it into a video with a Screen Recording Software where I added music, sound effects, and a YouTube video. Enjoy!

On-Site Policy Analysis: Zion National Park |
In my entrepreneurial recreation class (PRT 3440), I founded an idea to start a pirate rafting business. I worked with a group of my closest friends to put together a business called Scallywag's Raftin' LLC.
|
Went to Zion National Park to examine multiple stakeholders in the land and business around the park and how tourism affects their lives, communities, and the tourist experience.
Liability & Risk ManagementFor class (PRT 3520) I chose a local agency, my family's Parks and Recreation department summer camp programs called Play-Well Teknologies. I assessed both agencies and the risks associated with the program to create a risk mitigation plan since they did not have an existing one. I followed a 16-step assessment and came out with a lengthy document, I was unable to load the appendices in this version.
